Platform Transparency

This streaming platform is built using a collection of open-source technologies and custom backend tooling. Below is an overview of the infrastructure powering the stream.

Streaming Infrastructure

Icecast

The streaming engine responsible for delivering audio to listeners worldwide.

Ezstream

Feeds music into the streaming engine and works together with the playlist automation system to keep the stream running continuously.

FFmpeg

Used for audio processing and stream-related media processing.

Web Infrastructure

Nginx

Acts as the primary webserver and reverse proxy handling HTTPS, routing, caching and delivery of web resources.

Data & Metadata

MariaDB

Stores persistent metadata such as album artwork, artist biographies and track information.

Redis

High-speed in-memory datastore connecting services and handling realtime state and Pub/Sub communication.

Backend Services

Go

Custom backend services handling stream sequencing, playlist management, metadata processing, artwork retrieval, automation and listener statistics.

Server-Sent Events (SSE)

Provides realtime updates from the backend to connected web clients, including now playing information, album artwork, listener statistics and stream status.

WebSockets

Provides bidirectional realtime communication for the integrated chatbox.

Search Engine

Meilisearch

Provides fast full-text search and autocomplete for artists and tracks in the music library, including typo-tolerant search.

AI Assisted Development

ChatGPT & Mistral Vibe

Used during development for architecture exploration, debugging, coding assistance and experimentation.
